Prep Time: 15 minutes | Cook Time: 35-40 minutes (Defrost pastry dough ahead of time if store-bought - see producer instructions on defrosting times)
Ingredients:
For the Apple Filling:
- 3 medium apples, sliced
- 5-6 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Juice of half a lemon (adjust to taste)
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
For the Galette Dough:
- Pastry dough or pie crust ~ homemade or storebought
Toppings: Optional
- Your favorite ice cream
- Caramel sauce
Recipe:
Step 1: Prepare the Apple Filling
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, gently toss the sliced apples with brown sugar, vanilla extract, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and all-purpose flour until the apples are evenly coated.
- Let the apple mixture sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 2: Roll Out the Dough
- Roll out the pie crust or pastry dough on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness and approximately 12 inches (30 cm), allowing enough space for the apple filling while ensuring a manageable and appealing shape.
- Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a silicone baking mat or parchment-lined baking sheet.
Step 3: Assemble the Galette
- Arrange the apple slices in the center of the rolled-out dough, leaving a border around the edges approximately 2 inches (5 cm).
- Gently fold the edges of the dough over the apples, creating a rustic, free-form shape.
Step 4: Bake to Perfection
- Cut the unsalted butter into small pieces and scatter them over the apple filling.
- Sprinkle granulated sugar over folded pastry.
- Bake the galette in the preheated oven for 35 - 40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown, and the apples are tender.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
Place onto your Standard Cutting Board, slice, and serve warm, perhaps paired with a scoop of your favorite ice cream and caramel sauce.
